There's no place like home 115/365

After a long fourteen days in the neuro critical care unit, my dad is home.

More than half of those days were spent in the 'valley' (Psalm 23:4) but the Lord comforted me and my cup did indeed run over. While I do admit I was scared, I always had great feelings of hope. There was never a time when I wondered if he'd pull through because my dad is a fighter and stubborn as the day is long.

As my dad waited for my mom and sister to arrive at the hospital to take him home, he formulated his first 'real' lunch. He wanted a Checkers cheeseburger with bacon. That was it. He's a simple guy with simple tastes. After all he's been through, we thought he deserved it, so they drove through and got him a burger. When I last talked to him, he was sitting in the garage looking outside and basking in the sunshine on his face.

I can't express how relieved I am to know he's home. Understanding he still has quite a way to go until he's fully recovered, there is comfort in having him under the same roof as my mom. They'll both appreciate the full night's sleep without nurses coming inand out and machines beep and squealing.

I know I did.
