Stressless moments 334/366

While she was relaxing after a hard school day, I was working on nailing white balance and exposure. After browsing the Clickin Moms forum, I have so much information in my head that's begging to come out. I definately have a better understanding so now I just have to put it into practice.

P.S. Failure is success when you learn something from it. Remember this, my sweet girl.

Three generations under the same roof 325/366

The arrival of my parents made us all happy. Once the truck was unpacked and they were settled in, my dear husband lit a fire. He and my dad sat talking about what ever it is that guys talk about. Mom showed me her new {amazing} drawings. We ate dinner, talked, and watched NCIS.
The girls are excited to spend time with their grandparents and I am happy to have my parents under the same roof, if even for just a few days.

P.S. My mom is the longest living CML survivor in the whole U.S. of A. How cool is that?

Character building 323/366

My swimmer and I spent the weekend out of town. We packed the car and headed to a meet that would prepare her for the Senior State meet in December. The times weren't her fastest but there were so many lessons learned.
After the hard work she puts in week after week, racing shows her how far she's come and what she still needs to work on. It's also a great charater builder. During the tears of frustration, my heart breaks for her. I want to hold her and make it all better. But I can't. All I can do is listen, encourage, and remind her of the bigger picture. I know, at that moment, it probably the last thing she wants to hear but I know she's filing it away for later.
Once we're home and she's had a good night's sleep, she can work through those thoughts. Forming a plan when she's cool headed, practice will take on a new focus.
Because I can see the bigger picture, I know her character is developing through all of this. Working hard day after day at practice when you're tired, having a lofty goal that you might not reach the first time, managing your time so that work is completed even when you have two practices per day, declining invitations to hang with friends, putting off immediate gratification for long term satisfaction-these are all things that will help her as she navigates adulthood.
I am so proud of her and the woman she is becoming. I will support her lofty aspirations, wherever they take her.
I am a swim mom.

Bonfire with friends 319/366

We had friends over, lit a fire, roasted marshmallows, and took silly pictures. Everyone can acknowledge the importance of friends but these are friends I would lay down my life for, drop everything to help, walk uphill both ways in the snow to bring them food. Those kind of friends.
We played around trying to capture long exposure shots of shapes and such. Between laughing and trying to keep the sticks flaming, we didn't get very far.
Even after practicing, all we could squeeze out was 'LOVE' with a backward 'L'.
P.S. It was the best night I'd had in awhile.

Last weekend before the time change 307/366

Sitting on my deck looking out to the woods, I am filled with gratitude. There is so much in my life to be thankful for starting with the deliciously warm weather we are having today. Being nice enough for yoga pants and bare feet, I wandered around feeling the dry, brown grass under my toes. The warm sun on my face made me long for a nap in my hammock.

Instead, I worked on homework for my Clickin Moms photo class. My assignment this week is to photograph in full sun. It's a time I normally avoid, partially because I have one fair skinned, blue eyed daughter who can't open her eyes in bright light.

I took a lot of photos working on focus and exposure. Changing settings and chimping every few shots, I had the kids and the dog out there. They stood facing the sun, with their backs to the sun, and in the shade. What would I do without free labor?

I'll be looking at photos and playing in my new Lightroom 4 program. Yep, that and basking in the warmth of the sunshine.
