All you need is love 31/365

The weather has changed and it's definitely feeling more like winter.

The smell of rain 30/365

After her afternoon nap, she stood at the window watching and listening as the rain beat against the house. We have been under a tornado warning all day and that unsettles her. While she is drawn to the sounds and smells, she draws away from the potential danger a warning holds.

A date, a detour, and a steak on the grill 26/365

We had plans for a date that took an unexpected detour to the farmer's market. After purchasing numerous fresh items from various stands blasting traditional Mexican music, we went on to buy 8 arrows, two cups of coffe and 5 steaks (not all at the same store). I took the eldest to sleep over at a friend's house and came home to the smell of meat cooking on a charcoal grill.

Today was a good day.

When it all comes together 25/365

While it's not as crisp as I'd like it to be, I am pleased with this shot. When I read that my assignment was to capture a stop motion photo for the class I'm taking, I knew I'd be heading to the pool. Surely I could catch a few of the swimmers in the middle of a stroke.
It was not as easy as I thought it would be but I do love a good challenge.

Today. Contemplative. 24/365

Old meets new 22/365

As I walked around looking at each old piece on display, I was struck by the irony of old sitting with new. A 1900 Singer sewing maching and a manual washboard within 3 feet of a MacBook.

I wonder what it was like when Hotel Roxy was the the place to be.

Weekend in review 20/365

Spending the weekend at a swim meet affords me plenty of opportunity to observe the happenings around me.
1.   I can drive to this particular pool in the dark of night, through the city, practically with my eyes closed.
2.   I found great free weekend parking. Free vs $28 is a great plus.
3.   Nose bleed seats give the best view to see your child's performance.
4.   As someone who loves to people watch, I can see an amazing array of dress at swim meets. At any given moment, I can see a woman dressed to the nines wearing high heels or a man wearing a button down white oxford shirt tucked into nylon sweatpants paired with white socks and Teva sandals. {giggle}
5.   I get incredibly hungry sitting for hours doing nothing.
6.   Sitting for hours without wifi access bites.
7.   Walking through a deserted college campus alone on a Sunday afternoon is rather cathartic.
8.   My daughter must have take out Chinese as one of her weekend meals. It makes her happy.
9.   When I am tired, I can sleep. I don't need my own bed for a good night's rest (although I do travel with my own pillow).
10. There is no place like home.

The photo speaks for itself 19/365

When I took this photo, my eyes only saw the words. Not until I loaded it into Lightroom did I see the reflection in the glass. Both are equally beautiful.

Today. Itty bitty baby love 13/365

Today was spent taking pictures of my new neice. She is absolutely the sweetest thing I've been close to in awhile.

Finding the light 8/365

Wanting to be more consistent with the quality of photos I take led me back to a class with Clickin Moms. It began Monday and part of the assignment for week one is finding light and taking photos there. I've always loved gazing at images that use the light to their advantage but I can't seem to make that happen. Understanding the concept and producing it in your photos are two very different things,

This morning as I walked on the treadmill, I noticed great light coming in through the window. It's on the east side of the house so the morning rays were filtering through the trees, past the slats of the blind, and falling on the arm of the sofa. Something clicked in my mind and I jumped off the treadmill and pulled the cord so the light could stream in. Climbing back on to finish my workout, I noticed the patterns on the sofa. My mind raced through everything I've been reading. Things were starting to come together. So today, if you need me, I'll be playing with the light.

Where there is food, he will be there. Before you realize, he's set up his position. He would never dream of taking it but always waits to be offered. He's the consumate gentleman.

Total library love 3/365

While we don't use the library as much as we did when the girls were little, someone in the house read 7 books over Christmas break. And it wasn't me.

Eating raw 2/365

My body is telling me it's time. Eating raw for a week always makes me feel better so off to the store I went to pick up a few things. I also started yoga this morning. The first two days are always the hardest but the reward is so worth it.

P.S. The orange juice was for the hubby.

A new beginning 1/365

Christmas has been put away. It's cold outside. I've signed up for Shooting 101 and am chomping at the bit to get started. I'm reading Daring Greatly by Brene Brown and loving it.
